How to Download Your Instagram Data

This usually takes under 5 minutes, but might be longer the first time

Step-by-Step Guide

Go to accountscenter.instagram.com/info_and_permissions

Make sure you're signed into the correct Instagram account

Click "Your information and permissions" on the left menu

Click "Export your information"

Click "Create export"

Click "Export to device"

Select "Customize information" (this is a critical time-saver)

  1. "Clear all" on every section
  2. Only select "Followers & Following" (under "Connections")
  3. Save

Change Date range to "All time" and Format to "JSON"

Verify your page looks like this:

Click "Start export"

After Requesting the Download

  • You'll receive an email from Instagram confirming the request and another one when it's complete. Both links will bring you back to the same page.
  • When it's done processing, it will switch from "in progress" to "available".
  • The file will save as a .zip file that looks like "instagram-user-2024-01-01-etc.zip" (we suggest you don't change the filename).
